Spain’s retail sector weakened further in September 2026, with sales falling 1.4% year-over-year, according to the latest data updated on 29 October 2026. This marks a sharper decline than in August 2026, when retail sales were down 0.5% compared with the same month a year earlier.
The year-over-year measure compares each month’s performance with the corresponding month in the previous year. The widening drop from August to September signals mounting pressure on Spanish consumer spending, as the negative trend in retail activity has not only persisted but accelerated into the early autumn period.
