Brazil Loan Growth Slows to 0.4%

The stock of outstanding loans in Brazil’s financial system grew 0.4% in September 2026 from the previous month, reaching R$ 7.4 trillion, a slight slowdown from the 0.5% increase registered in August. Credit to corporations rose 1.0%, totaling R$ 2.8 trillion, while lending to households edged up 0.1% to R$ 4.7 trillion.

On a yearly basis, total credit expanded 8.6%, down from 9.4% in August. Household lending continued to grow faster than corporate credit, advancing 9.9% year-on-year (after 10.7% in the previous month), whereas credit to legal entities decelerated to 6.5% from 7.3%.

Credit with free resources amounted to R$ 4.2 trillion, up 0.8% on the month and 6.5% compared with a year earlier. This movement reflected a 0.2% monthly increase in household credit and a 1.7% rise in lending to companies.
