Romania Producer Inflation Highest in Over 3 Years

Romania’s producer inflation rose to 13.82% year-on-year in September 2026, up from an upwardly revised 11.83% in August, reaching its highest level since March 2023. Price growth strengthened in the manufacturing sector (11.94% vs 10.52% in August), driven by sharper increases in paper and paper products; coke and refined petroleum products; basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations; basic metals; fabricated metal products (excluding machinery and equipment); computer, electronic and optical products; motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers; and other transport equipment.

Producer costs also jumped in mining and quarrying (22.46% vs 12.67%) and in electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply (17.73% vs 14.95%), while prices in water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities were broadly stable (14.70% vs 14.73%). On a monthly basis, producer prices increased by 2.60% in September 2026, after a 2.11% rise in August.
