German Car Registrations Rise for Eighth Month

Germany’s new car registrations increased by 1.7% year-on-year in October 2026, reaching 254,492 units and marking the eighth consecutive month of growth. Private registrations surged by 20.6% and accounted for 40.7% of the total market, while commercial registrations declined by 8.2%.

Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) continued to gain ground, representing 37% of all new registrations, or 94,086 units. In contrast, hybrid registrations fell by 5.6% to 95,931 units, including a 7.9% decrease in plug-in hybrids. Registrations of gasoline-powered cars dropped sharply by 40.5% to 38,516 units, corresponding to a 15.1% market share and underscoring the ongoing shift toward electrified vehicles.

Over the first ten months of 2026, total new car registrations in Germany rose by 4.9% year-on-year to 2.48 million units.
