Syria is in the first place. At the moment, the European Union has received more than 550,000 applications for asylum from citizens of this country. In the total flow of applications, the share of Syrians reaches 29.3%. Most often, people from Syria ask to go to Germany, Hungary, and Sweden.
Afghanistan occupies the second place. Thus, 265,000 citizens of this state sent applications for asylum to the EU. They, as well as people from Syria, aspire to go to Germany, Hungary and Sweden.
The European Union received 191,000 applications for asylum from Iraqi citizens (the third place). Residents of this country dream of settling in Germany, Sweden, and Finland.
The fourth place is taken by Albania with 80 thousand applications for asylum. Unlike the representatives of the first three countries of the list, Albanians do not consider Hungary as a good option, instead, they ask to go to France. Also, there are Germany and Sweden in their list.
About 78 thousand people from Kosovo (the fifth place), who sent applications for asylum in the EU, ask to go to Germany, Hungary, and France.
The sixth place goes to Pakistan. The EU received 71,000 asylum applications from its citizens. Italy is the most popular European country, where people from Pakistan would like to move. Hungary and Germany are in the second and third places, respectively.
The number of applications for asylum in the EU, written by Iranian citizens (seventh place), reached 46,000. Most Iranians want to live and work in Germany, the UK, and Sweden.
Citizens of Nigeria are also unhappy with the standard of living in their state - they sent 45,500 applications for asylum to Europe. The most desirable destination for Nigerians is Italy. Germany is in the second place, France is the third.
One of the poorest countries in the world Eritrea took the ninth place. Its citizens filed 45.5 thousand applications for asylum in the EU. Germany, Sweden, and the Netherlands are the most desirable states of Europe for the Eritreans.
Serbia closes the list. Asylum in the EU was requested by 36 thousand Serbs. The most popular countries for immigrants from the central part of the Balkan Peninsula are Germany, Sweden, and the Netherlands.
