Washington, DC (USA)

The capital of the USA is known for its business atmosphere, but every spring, this city is transformed beyond recognition thanks to cherry blossoms. Sakura on the streets of Washington appeared more than a hundred years ago when the mayor of Tokyo gave the American capital three thousand cherry trees as a sign of friendship between Japan and the United States. These days, Washington, D.C., celebrates the cherry blossom period for an entire month. From mid-March to mid-April, the city hosts a Sakura Festival with various events and parties.

Macon (USA)

The small southern town of Macon, located in the American state of Georgia, has earned the title of the world capital of Sakura. The fact is that more than 350 thousand cherry trees are planted on its streets. For this reason, every spring, crowds of tourists flock to Macon to admire the cherry blossoms. Most visitors come here from March 15 to 24, because during these days the city holds a large-scale festival of cherry blossoms, which, incidentally, has international status.

Vancouver (Canada)

Vancouver's love for Sakura was born after the First World War. To express gratitude to Canadians of Japanese descent who participated in the war, the mayors of the Japanese cities of Kobe and Yokohama gave this Canadian city 500 cherry trees. Since then, the number of cherry trees in Vancouver has reached 43,000. During the cherry blossom season every spring, the city holds a grand festival dedicated to this spectacular natural phenomenon.

Paris (France)

In spring, the capital of France is also drowned in pink. Sakura can be found today in several Parisian gardens: Trocadero, which is not far from the Eiffel Tower, Tuileries, located a few steps from the Louvre, and Jardin de Plante, which is located on the left bank of the Seine. However, the largest number of cherry trees grows outside the city center, in the Parc de Sceaux. There are more than 150 specimens of cherry trees there.

Valle del Jerte (Spain)

In the western part of Spain, in the Extremadura region, there are now 1.5 million cherry trees. Most of them grow in the Valle del Jerte. Despite the fact that local cherry trees have white rather than pink flowers, they still attract crowds of tourists every spring. The Cherry Blossom Festival, which usually takes place in late March or early April, is particularly popular with visitors.
