The richest businessman in Latin America is currently 84-year-old Mexican Carlos Slim Helú. According to the latest data, his personal fortune is estimated at $102 billion, up $9 billion from last year. This significant increase in his wealth was driven by a 60% rise in shares of his industrial conglomerate, Grupo Carso. Last year, the company concluded deals worth over $655 million to increase investments in the energy sector, significantly strengthening its position and, consequently, Carlos Slim Helú’s wealth.

The second spot on the list of the richest Latin Americans is held by Brazil’s wealthiest businessman, 42-year-old Eduardo Saverin. Last year, the net worth of the co-founder of Facebook increased by more than $17 billion to $28 billion. His financial success can be attributed to Meta’s stock, which has tripled in value over the past 12 months. In addition, Saverin benefits from B Capital, a venture firm he founded in 2015, which currently has more than $5 billion in assets under management.

The third richest person in Latin America is 82-year-old Mexican Germán Larrea Mota-Velasco. His net worth is nearly $28 billion, up $1.3 billion from last year. Today, the conglomerate owns the country’s largest mining company, which produces about one million tons of copper a year.

The fourth spot in the ranking of the wealthiest Latin Americans goes to 82-year-old Chilean entrepreneur Iris Fontbona. Her personal fortune is estimated at $25.7 billion, an increase of $2.6 billion from last year. The widow of Andrónico Luksic (who died in 2005), Fontbona and her children inherited Luksic Group, a multibillion-dollar mining company, as well as diversified Chilean conglomerate Antofagasta PLC, which generated $6.3 billion in revenue in 2023.

Vicky Safra, a 71-year-old Brazilian entrepreneur, closes the list of the top five richest people in Latin America. In 2020, after the death of her husband Joseph Safra, the world’s richest banker at the time, Vicky inherited financial conglomerate Safra Group that he previously owned. The family business is now run by her sons Jacob and David.
