China Export Growth Below Forecasts

In May 2025, China's exports increased by 4.8% compared to the same period the previous year, totaling USD 316.1 billion. This growth was slightly below market expectations of 5.0%. The latest numbers represent a notable decrease from the 8.1% growth reported in April, largely due to the impact of tariffs imposed during the Trump administration and ongoing uncertainties in trade negotiations between Washington and Beijing. Cumulatively, for the first five months of 2025, exports saw a 6.1% rise from the same timeframe in 2024, amounting to USD 1.48 trillion.
