DAX Ends Negative, Posts Monthly Loss

The Frankfurt DAX index ended Friday's session with a decline of roughly 0.6% at 23,920, marking its lowest point since August 5 and continuing its downward trend for the fifth consecutive session. Leading up to the weekend, investor sentiment turned cautious due to political instability in France and rising geopolitical tensions, particularly the escalating conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine. Meanwhile, inflation data from Europe suggested limited price pressures. Within Germany, the inflation rate increased to 2.2% in August from July's 2%, surpassing market expectations of 2.1%, yet staying close to the European Central Bank's target of 2%. Sector performance varied, with technology companies, retailers, and automobile stocks experiencing significant declines. In contrast, defense stocks such as Rheinmetall, Renk, and Hensoldt rose by over 3%, following Chancellor Friedrich Merz's skepticism about potential talks between Putin and Zelenskyy. The DAX suffered a 1.8% decrease over the week and a monthly decline of 0.6%.
