Macedonia Retail Sales Drop in July

Retail sales in Macedonia experienced a 2.3% decline in July 2025 compared to the same period last year, halting a two-month trend of rising figures. This follows a significant 13% increase in June, which had been the most substantial growth since August 2021. The downturn was largely driven by reduced demand across key categories. Sales in the food, beverages, and tobacco sector decreased by 0.4%, following a remarkable 22.5% rise in June. Non-food product sales also saw a decline of 6.6%, reversing from a previous 5.2% growth. Additionally, sales of automotive fuel increased by a mere 2.2%, which was a discernible deceleration from the 8.3% growth observed in the prior month. When fuel sales are excluded, overall retail trade contracted by 3.4% in July, in contrast to a strong 13.9% increase recorded in June.
