Baltic Dry Index Rebounds Slightly, Books Weekly Gain

The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk sea freight index, an indicator that monitors the rates for vessels carrying dry commodities, experienced an uptick of 13 points, reaching 1,936 points on Friday, after a decline on the previous day. Specifically, the capesize index, which generally involves the transportation of 150,000-ton shipments like iron ore and coal, marked its second consecutive day of gains, climbing 13 points to 2,799 points. Meanwhile, the panamax index, typically engaged in carrying 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose by 34 points to settle at 1,764 points. In contrast, the supramax index, which pertains to smaller vessels, continued its downward trend for the 11th consecutive day, losing one point to hit its lowest level since August 22, at 1,402 points. Over the course of the week, the benchmark index achieved an overall increase of 1.8%.
