In October 2025, the seasonally adjusted number of total dwelling approvals in Australia decreased by 6.4% from the previous month, totaling 15,832 units. This decline contrasts with September's revised sharp increase of 11.1%, as reported in preliminary estimates. The latest figures also underperformed market expectations of a 4.5% drop. Approvals for private-sector dwellings, excluding houses, plummeted by 13.1%, reversing the previously adjusted 25.0% surge, while approvals for private-sector houses fell by 2.1%, following a revised rise of 3.2%. Regionally, dwelling approvals saw decreases in Victoria (-24.7%) and New South Wales (-20.6%), whereas Western Australia (28.1%), South Australia (11.2%), and Queensland (2.4%) experienced increases. Annually, total dwelling approvals fell by 1.8%, after revising the previous month's substantial 14.9% rise.
