Fiji Consumer Prices Drop the Least in 5 Months

In November 2025, consumer prices in Fiji recorded a year-on-year decrease of 1.4%, following a 3.4% drop in the preceding month. This trend reflects the tenth straight month of deflation, although the rate of deflation eased to its mildest level since June. The moderation was primarily due to a slower decline in the costs of food and non-alcoholic beverages, which decreased by 3.9% compared to October's 8.4% fall, as well as a lessening drop in transportation costs, which declined by 4.3% compared to a 6.2% drop previously, and housing prices, which fell 1.6% compared to 2.5% in the prior month. Meanwhile, the prices of clothing and footwear remained stable at a 3.9% decrease. Conversely, prices in the recreation and culture sector saw a steeper decline, falling 1.6% compared to 1.3% previously, and the area covering furnishings, household equipment, and routine maintenance witnessed a decrease of 0.5% after experiencing a 0.8% increase in October. However, upward price pressure was evident in the categories of alcoholic beverages and tobacco, which saw a slight decrease to 3.8% from 3.9%, education, which remained steady at a 0.5% increase, and miscellaneous goods and services, which rose by 5.7% compared to 5.4% the month before. On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices in November rose by 0.5%, recovering from a 0.2% decline observed in October.
