UK construction output fell 0.3% year-on-year in December 2025, matching November’s downwardly revised decline and undershooting market expectations for no change. This was the second consecutive annual contraction, as new work continued to drop (-1.3% vs -1.9% in November) and growth in repair and maintenance slowed further (1.2% vs 2.1%).
On a monthly basis, construction output decreased 0.5% in December, following a 0.8% fall in November. New work increased by 1.0%, but this was more than offset by a 2.5% decline in repair and maintenance. Over the three months to December, total construction output contracted by 2.1%, with new work down 2.6% and repair and maintenance down 1.5%.
