Paraguay Trade Deficit Widens in January

Paraguay’s trade deficit widened to $162.2 million in January 2026, up from $85.7 million in the same month a year earlier. Exports declined 4.2% year-on-year to $1.29 billion. Sales of primary products fell 9.7% to $318.7 million, with soybeans exerting the largest negative impact, partially offset by higher shipments of wheat and other oilseeds. Exports of agricultural manufactures edged up 0.2% to $263.8 million, industrial manufactures increased 17.2% to $159.6 million, and fuel and energy exports rose 19.7% to $102.2 million.

Imports grew 1.4% to $1.45 billion. Purchases of primary products expanded 7.3% to $29.4 million, driven mainly by corn for sowing and unmanufactured tobacco. Imports of agricultural manufactures rose 7.0% to $93.7 million, while industrial manufactures increased 1.7% to $1.14 billion. By contrast, imports of fuels and lubricants fell 3.6%.
