US Construction Spending Rebounds in December

US construction spending rose 0.3% month-over-month in December 2025, after a revised 0.2% decline in November, matching market expectations, according to delayed data. This marked the first monthly increase after three consecutive declines. Private construction outlays increased 0.5%, driven by a 1.5% rise in residential spending, largely reflecting growth in new single-family projects (+1.6%) and, to a lesser extent, multi-family construction (+0.1%). In contrast, private nonresidential spending fell 0.7%. Public construction outlays declined 0.5%, with drops in both residential (-2.7%) and nonresidential (-0.4%) categories. Year-on-year, total construction spending was down 0.4%. For the full year 2025, construction spending decreased 1.4% compared with the previous year.
