Brazil’s Industrial Output Turns Positive in January, Signaling Tentative Recovery

Brazil’s industrial production edged back into positive territory in January 2026, rising 0.2% year-over-year after a slight contraction at the end of last year. The latest data, updated on 6 March 2026, mark an improvement from December 2025, when output slipped 0.1% compared with the same month a year earlier.

The return to growth, though modest, suggests a tentative stabilization in Brazil’s industrial sector after a weak finish to 2025. On a year-over-year basis, the January figure indicates that factories are producing slightly more than they did in January 2025, reversing the negative comparison seen in December.

While the increase is small, the shift from negative to positive territory may be viewed by investors and policymakers as an early sign that industrial activity is finding a floor, with upcoming monthly data likely to be watched closely for confirmation of a more durable recovery trend.
