Namibia’s annual inflation rate accelerated for the second consecutive month, reaching 4.1% in May 2026, up from 3.1% in April and the highest reading since March 2025. The main upward pressure came from higher prices in transportation (11.5% vs. 5% in April), housing and utilities (4.9% vs. 4%), and restaurants and hotels (4.8% vs. 4.9%). Food inflation remained unchanged at 2% compared with the previous month, with the largest increases recorded in fruit (12.4%), vegetables (4.9%), and meat (3.5%). On a monthly basis, the consumer price index (CPI) rose by 1.2% in May, following a 1.1% increase in April.
