Sensex Closes Slightly Down

India’s BSE Sensex slipped 0.2% to close at 73,832.6 on Thursday, snapping a two-session winning streak, as investors turned cautious amid persistent tensions in the Middle East and ongoing foreign fund outflows. Sentiment was further weighed down by continued weakness in technology stocks, driven by concerns over AI-related disruption and the prospect of an extended period of elevated US interest rates.

Geopolitical risks intensified as the US and Iran carried out strikes across the Middle East for a second straight day, with President Trump warning of further action if Tehran delays agreeing to a peace deal.

In equities, Infosys and HCL Tech were among the worst performers, shedding 2.7% and 2%, respectively. Other notable decliners included Adani Ports (-1.9%), Eternal (-1.8%), Bajaj Finance (-1.6%), BEL (-1.5%), Trent (-1.5%) and L&T (-1.5%).

On the upside, ICICI Bank, M&M, Kotak Bank and Sun Pharma recorded the strongest gains on the index, advancing between 0.7% and 1.9%.
