Sweden Trade Surplus Shrinks in June

Sweden recorded a trade surplus of SEK 2.6 billion in June 2026, more than four times lower than the SEK 11.8 billion posted in the same month a year earlier, as imports grew more rapidly than exports. Imports surged 18.1% year-on-year to a record SEK 195.3 billion, driven by increased purchases from both EU partners (up 21% to SEK 131.8 billion) and non-EU countries (up 12.6% to SEK 63.5 billion). Exports also reached an all-time high, rising 11.7% to SEK 197.6 billion, supported by higher shipments to EU countries (up 18.2% to SEK 112.2 billion) and to non-EU markets (up 4.3% to SEK 85.7 billion).

Over the first six months of the year, the trade surplus narrowed sharply to SEK 8.2 billion from SEK 47.9 billion in the same period a year earlier, as exports increased 3% while imports advanced at a faster 7%. On a seasonally adjusted basis, the trade balance showed a deficit of SEK 0.5 billion in June.
