Hong Kong Import Growth Slows in July

Imports to Hong Kong increased by 41% year-on-year to USD 677.4 billion in July 2026, moderating from a 45.4% rise in June. The expansion was broad-based across major commodity groups, led by electrical machinery, apparatus and appliances, and electrical parts thereof (up 47.1%), office machines and automatic data-processing machines (up 78.9%), and non-ferrous metals (up 242.5%).

By origin, the sharpest gains in imports were recorded from South Korea (up 146.6%) and India (up 110.7%), followed by the United Kingdom (up 106.3%), Malaysia (up 66.7%), the United States (up 62.6%) and Mainland China (up 37.1%).

Over the first seven months of 2026, total imports grew 40.6% year-on-year. The increase was mainly driven by electrical machinery, apparatus and appliances, and electrical parts thereof (up 47%), telecommunications and sound-recording and reproducing apparatus and equipment (up 62.2%), and non-ferrous metals (up 205.2%).
