Gold’s Ascent to Multi-Month Highs: Impulse Wave Halts in Symmetrical Compression Near $4,372 The XAU/USD (Gold) 4-hour (H4) chart reveals a clear structural shift that began in late July and developed into a strong impulsive bullish phase, followed by a consolidation near the highs. Price is currently trading around $4,372.14 after testing levels near $4,425.40 earlier this month. The overall picture shows Gold transitioning from a sideways range into a defined uptrend, and now entering what appears to be a corrective pause within that larger bullish context. The technical progression across this timeframe cleanly breaks down into three distinct structural phases: The Accumulation Range (27 July – 1 August): Gold traded in a tight horizontal consolidation between approximately $3,987.80 and $4,097.20. During this period, the moving averages were flat and compressed, and the Bollinger Bands were narrow, indicating low volatility and market indecision. Price repeatedly failed to break above $4,097.20 while consistently holding above $3,987.80. This price behavior represented clear accumulation, as the lows were defended and sellers failed to push price lower despite multiple attempts. The Exponential Moving Averages (EMAs) were intertwined, signaling an impending expansion once volatility returned. The Impulsive Breakout & Trend Phase (3–4 August – 10 August): A powerful impulse drove Gold from the $4,042.50 area up through $4,151.90, $4,206.60, and eventually beyond $4,316.00 without any meaningful pullback. This advance was characterized by strong bullish candles, expanding Bollinger Bands to the upside, and the EMAs turning up and fanning out in bullish alignment. Price respected the rising EMAs as dynamic support, creating a clean sequence of higher highs and higher lows. The move accelerated through $4,261.30 and $4,316.00, confirming that buyers had full control and that the prior consolidation range was invalidated. The High-Level Consolidation & Squeeze (10–12 August – Present): Upon reaching a peak near $4,425.40, Gold began a shallow retracement back toward $4,316.00, coinciding with a touch of the lower Bollinger Band and the rising cluster of EMAs. This pullback did not break structure because the EMAs remained in bullish order and the higher low above $4,316.00 held. Currently at $4,372.14, Gold is coiling just below the red horizontal reference line and directly around the EMAs. The candles have become smaller and the bands have started to contract slightly after the wide expansion, signaling that the market is gathering energy for its next move. From a price level perspective, the structure is very defined. To the upside, immediate resistance sits at $4,425.40, representing the recent swing high and the top of the upper Bollinger Band. A H4 close above $4,425.40 would confirm continuation of the impulse and open the door toward $4,480.10, where no major overhead resistance is visible on this timeframe. To the downside, the first support zone is $4,316.00 to $4,330.00, aligning with the recent pullback low, the middle Bollinger Band, and the rising EMAs. Deeper support sits at $4,261.30 and $4,206.60 (former resistance turned support), while major structural support remains at $4,097.20 and $4,042.50. The overall trend structure has clearly shifted from neutral to bullish, defined by higher highs at $4,206.60, $4,316.00, and $4,425.40, and higher lows at $4,042.50, $4,151.90, $4,261.30, and $4,316.00. The EMAs remain stacked correctly with price holding above them. Candlestick behavior confirms this context, as the recent pause produced small-bodied candles with upper wicks near $4,425.40 rather than aggressive distribution. As long as price holds above $4,316.00 and the EMAs, the path of least resistance remains to the upside toward $4,480.10, while a break below $4,261.30 would be the first warning that buyers are losing short-term control.
