market investors process the aggressive remarks made by Federal Reserve (Fed) Chair Kevin Warsh at Jackson Hole, gold (XAU/USD) prices continue to drop, reaching nearly 2.50% on Friday. The two factors behind the abrupt decline in precious metals are rising US Treasury rates and the general strength of the US dollar. After reaching a peak of $4,629, the XAU/USD pair is currently trading at $4,473. Given that underlying inflation measurements haven't improved, Warsh stated that he still views inflation as a top concern and is leaning hawkish. "We have work to do," he said, unless the Fed is certain that inflation is back to its 2% target. He highlighted the strength of the labour market and the health of consumer spending in his prepared remarks. According to Prime Terminal, speculators reduced the odds to around 44% as of this writing, but they now predict an 82% possibility for December. According to the US Dollar Index (DXY), which compares the value of the US dollar to six other currencies, the Greenback has increased by more than 0.60%. The increase in US Treasury rates is supporting the DXY, which is now at 99.72. The yield on the US 10-year Treasury has increased by 5.5 basis points to 4.728%.
