The Mexican economy experienced accelerated growth in the second quarter, according to preliminary data released by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) on Tuesday.
The gross domestic product (GDP) increased by an unadjusted 2.2 percent year-over-year for the June quarter, up from the 1.6 percent growth observed in the March quarter. This performance slightly surpassed the anticipated growth rate of 2.0 percent.
Among major economic sectors, the tertiary sector showed the most significant expansion, growing by 2.7 percent annually in the June quarter, compared to a 2.1 percent increase in the previous quarter.
In contrast, the secondary sector's annual growth improved to 1.9 percent from a higher 2.2 percent previously. Meanwhile, the primary sector experienced a contraction of 2.7 percent, following a 0.6 percent rebound in the prior three-month period.
On a seasonally adjusted basis, GDP rose by 0.2 percent in the second quarter, whereas economists had predicted a 0.4 percent increase.
