Finnish Consumer Morale Remains Weak

In March 2025, Finnish consumer confidence improved to -8.2, rising from February's nine-month low of -9. Despite this uptick, the index remains significantly under its long-term average of -2.6, indicating persistent consumer pessimism. Household perceptions of their personal economy saw a slight improvement, moving from -6.3 in February to -4.5 in March, yet sentiments continued to be fragile. Similarly, views on Finland's current economic condition showed a marginal betterment from -36.5 to -35.2. Financial situation assessments and saving prospects reached near long-term averages, shifting to 23.4 from 21.5 and improving to -9.8 from -13, respectively. Yet, the climate for purchasing durable goods was still deemed very unfavorable, and intentions to spend remained subdued, dropping slightly to -19.5 from -19.2. The outlook on unemployment was particularly pessimistic, with expectations still bleak at -27.5 compared to -32.2, and a high perceived risk of job loss, which worsened to -14.3 from -13.6.
