The NZX 50 experienced an increase of 16 points, or 0.1%, reaching 11,825 during Monday morning trading, effectively ending the losses observed in the previous month. This positive trend was influenced by a strong performance on Wall Street the previous Friday, spurred by robust US employment data and optimism regarding easing trade tensions between the United States and China. High-level trade negotiators from both countries are scheduled to commence new discussions in London on Monday, heightening expectations of reduced tensions concerning China's dominance in the rare-earth minerals market. Nonetheless, potential gains were restrained as investors remained cautious ahead of the release of China's Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Producer Price Index (PPI), along with May's trade data, which will be published later today amid ongoing risks of deflation and uncertainty surrounding trade tariffs. The consumer discretionary, energy, and real estate sectors showed significant upward movement, with Genesis Energy advancing by 1.1%, Henderson Far East Income by 1.0%, Seeka Ltd by 0.8%, Ebos Group by 0.4%, and Ryman Healthcare also by 0.4%.
