In June 2025, Japan's unemployment rate remained unchanged at 2.5% for the fourth month in a row, consistent with market expectations. The number of unemployed individuals was maintained at a three-month low of 1.72 million. Conversely, the number of employed individuals saw a reduction, decreasing by 50,000 to reach 68.32 million. Similarly, the overall labor force saw a decline, decreasing by 40,000 to total 70.04 million. Additionally, those not participating in the labor force decreased by 50,000, bringing the figure to 39.57 million. The non-seasonally adjusted labor force participation rate increased to 64.2%, up from 63.7% the previous year, marking the highest point since June 1998. In contrast, the jobs-to-applicants ratio fell to 1.22, below the consensus estimate of 1.25, reaching its lowest point since March 2022.
