Rwanda Inflation Rate Quickens for 3rd Month

Rwanda’s annual inflation rate rose for the third consecutive month to 12.7% in June 2026, up from 12.3% in May, marking the highest level since October 2023. Price increases accelerated in several major categories, including transportation (29.1% vs. 28% in May), housing and utilities (23.3% vs. 21.8%), recreation and culture (11.3% vs. 8.5%), and food and non-alcoholic beverages (8% vs. 7.6%), with particularly sharp rises in meat (14.7%) and vegetables (11.8%).

Meanwhile, prices remained high for health (65%), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (13.5%), restaurants and hotels (13.4%), education (11.3%), furnishings and household equipment (10.2%), and miscellaneous goods and services (9.2%). On a monthly basis, the consumer price index (CPI) increased by 0.4% in June, following a 0.6% rise in May.
