German Import Price Inflation Eases to 6.1% in June, Signaling Gradual Cost Relief

Germany’s import price inflation continued to moderate in June 2026, offering a tentative sign of easing cost pressures for Europe’s largest economy. The Import Price Index rose 6.1% year-over-year in June, down from a 6.8% increase recorded in May 2026, according to data updated on 29 July 2026.

Both figures are measured on a year-over-year basis, comparing each month with the same month a year earlier. The slowdown from May to June suggests that while imported goods are still significantly more expensive than a year ago, the pace of increase is gradually cooling.

For businesses and policymakers, the softer import price growth may point to a lessening of external inflationary pressures, which can eventually feed through to producer and consumer prices if the trend continues in the coming months.
