Ireland Economy Expands 3.9% in Q2

Ireland’s economy grew by 3.9% quarter-on-quarter in the second quarter of 2026, rebounding from a 7.0% contraction in the first quarter and ending a two-quarter downturn, according to preliminary estimates. This was the strongest quarterly expansion since Q1 2025, largely driven by gains in the information and communication sector, which is dominated by multinationals. On a yearly basis, GDP declined 1.6% in Q2, a moderation from the 13% drop recorded in the previous quarter, and marking a third consecutive year-on-year contraction following five straight quarters of growth.
