European equities finished solidly higher on Monday, buoyed by a pullback in sovereign bond yields that helped ease pressure from a challenging macroeconomic environment. The Euro STOXX 50 advanced 1.3% to 6,318, while the STOXX Europe 600 climbed 1.0% to 642.
Energy markets also lent support. Natural gas and fuel prices retreated after the weekend amid signs that GCC countries are pursuing diplomatic channels with Iran to resume tanker traffic through the Persian Gulf. The resulting decline in yields improved the credit outlook and underpinned the banking sector, with UniCredit, Nordea, and BBVA gaining between 2% and 3.2%.
Lower gas prices further bolstered energy-intensive industrial leaders: Siemens and Schneider Electric each rose by more than 3%. At the same time, a global rally in AI infrastructure stocks lifted Infineon, which jumped 4.3%, while ASML added 2.5%.
Index rebalancing also drove stock-specific moves. Nokia and Engie both advanced after being included in the Euro STOXX 50, replacing Wolters Kluwer and Volkswagen.
