The NZX 50 rose 54 points, or 0.4%, to close at 13,875 on Tuesday, extending the previous session’s gains. The advance was led largely by the materials, energy, financials, and real estate sectors. The benchmark remained at its highest level since September 7, mirroring an overnight rally on Wall Street driven by strength in AI-related technology stocks, while softer oil prices and a pullback in US Treasury yields added support.
Sentiment was further lifted by optimism ahead of this week’s Trump–Xi summit, where AI and tariffs are expected to be key topics of discussion. Easing oil prices also underpinned risk appetite amid ongoing efforts to reduce tensions in the Middle East.
Among individual movers, Vulcan Steel gained 4.8%, Briscoe Group rose 3.1%, Colonial Motor added 2.8%, Channel Infrastructure advanced 2.0%, Hallenstein Glasson climbed 1.6%, Port of Tauranga was up 1.5%, Mainfreight increased 1.2%, and Meridian Energy edged 0.9% higher.
