Italian Stocks Kick Off Week Higher

The FTSE MIB saw a 0.3% increase in early Monday trading, marking a positive start to the week as market participants awaited further information regarding U.S. President Donald Trump's reciprocal tariffs, which are slated to commence on April 2. President Trump hinted on Friday that there might be some “flexibility” within the proposed tariffs, and weekend reports suggested the measures could be less extensive than initially anticipated. Meanwhile, investors are keeping a keen eye on ceasefire negotiations aimed at resolving the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. U.S. representatives are set to engage with their Russian counterparts today, following discussions held on Sunday with Ukrainian officials. The financial sector experienced gains, with notable increases seen in shares of Banca Mediolanum (up 3%), Finecobank (up 2.3%), Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena (up 1.8%), and Banca Generali (up 1.6%).
