In the first quarter of 2025, Australia's private new capital expenditure on buildings and structures rose by 0.9% compared to the previous quarter's 0.2% increase. Notably, the most significant growth in capital expenditure was witnessed in the arts and recreation sector, with a 26.2% leap, followed by health care and social assistance, which saw a 12.4% rise. Other sectors such as financial and insurance services, transport, postal and warehousing, and administrative and support services also experienced notable increases of 6.7%, 5.9%, and 5.7%, respectively. Robert Ewing, Head of Business Statistics at the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), stated, "Expenditure on buildings and structures climbed 0.9 percent, with the mining sector experiencing a 1.7 percent increase while non-mining sectors grew by 0.4 percent. The mining sector's expansion was largely fueled by investments in oil and gas, gold, and other metal ore projects."
