Brunei Consumer Prices Drop the Least in 3 Months

In July 2025, Brunei experienced a 0.2% reduction in consumer prices compared to the same month the previous year. This decline was less steep than the 0.6% drop recorded in June and represented the smallest fall since April. The decrease in costs for food and non-alcoholic beverages slowed to 0.4% from June's 0.7% decline. Meanwhile, price drops persisted across several sectors: housing and utilities remained at a 0.1% reduction, transport eased to a 0.2% fall from June's 0.7%, and communication held steady with a 0.3% drop. Recreation and culture showed a consistent decrease of 2.3%, and miscellaneous goods and services also decreased by 0.2%, compared to a 0.1% decline in June. Inflation rates remained unchanged for health services at 1.0% and for furnishings and household maintenance at 0.1%. Conversely, inflation increased slightly in the restaurant and hotel sector, moving to 0.3% from 0.2%, and in education, edging up to 0.3% from 0.2%. A notable reversal was observed in the clothing and footwear segment, which saw prices rise by 2.5% after a 5.4% drop in June. On a monthly basis, consumer prices dipped by 0.2% in July, following a marginal 0.03% decrease in June, marking the third consecutive month of decline.
