Chile Inflation Slows to 4% in August

In August 2025, Chile's annual inflation rate decreased to 4.0% from 4.3% in July, falling short of the anticipated 4.2%. This marks the slowest rate of price increase since April 2024. The reduction in inflation was primarily attributed to a decrease in clothing and footwear prices, which fell by 1.0% compared to a previous increase of 1.4%. There was also a noticeable deceleration in price growth for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (3.7% down from 5.2%), housing and utilities (9.5% compared to 9.8%), household equipment and maintenance (down to 0.7% from 1.9%), transport (0.2% compared to 0.6%), information and communication (0.5% versus 1.0%), and recreation, sports, and culture (2.7% down from 3.8%). Conversely, there was an uptick in inflation rates for healthcare (increasing to 5.3% from 4.7%), food and non-alcoholic beverages (rising to 3.5% from 3.2%), as well as insurance and financial services (up to 2.1% from 0.1%). On a monthly scale, consumer prices remained steady, following a 0.9% increase in July.
