Baltic Dry Index Halts 2-Day Decline

The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk sea freight index, which monitors the costs associated with shipping dry commodities, ended its two-day downward trend on Tuesday by climbing 28 points to reach 2,200 points. This increase was largely driven by an uplift in rates for larger vessel sizes. Specifically, the capesize index—a metric for vessels typically transporting cargoes of around 150,000 tons such as iron ore and coal—rose by 104 points to 3,469 points. Meanwhile, the supramax index remained stable at 1,486 points. In contrast, the panamax index, representing vessels that generally carry between 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, fell by 23 points, reaching its lowest level since September 4, at 1,799 points.
