The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk sea freight index, a key indicator for rates on shipping vessels that transport dry commodities, experienced an uptick for the second consecutive day on Wednesday. It rose by 40 points, reaching 2,240 points, the highest level since July 25. This increase was largely driven by gains in the larger vessel segments. The capesize index, known for carrying 150,000-ton cargo loads such as iron ore and coal, surged by 104 points to reach 3,573 points. Meanwhile, the panamax index, which commonly transports 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, ended its seven-day decline by gaining 25 points, reaching 1,824 points. Conversely, the supramax index saw a slight decrease, dropping 3 points to settle at 1,483 points.
