Sweden September Inflation Confirmed at 0.9%

In September 2025, Sweden's annual inflation rate decreased to 0.9%, down from a six-month high of 1.1% in August, aligning with initial forecasts and moving further beneath the Riksbank's 2% target. The slowdown in price growth was observed in categories such as food and non-alcoholic beverages, where the rate fell to 3.3% from 4.7% in August. Similarly, there was a decrease in inflation for clothing and footwear, down to 1.7% from 3.2%, and for alcoholic beverages and tobacco, which dipped to 1.3% from 1.5%. Additionally, the rate for miscellaneous goods and services eased to 3.5% from 3.8%. Furthermore, there was an accelerated decline in prices for housing and utilities, which dropped to -2.3% from -1.9%, and furnishings and household goods, which decreased further to -2.3% from -0.4%.

On the other hand, inflation for restaurants and hotels saw an increase, rising to 4.1% from 2.9%, while transport costs stabilized at 0%, compared to a previous decrease of -1.4%. Monthly consumer prices remained stable, following a 0.4% decline in the previous month. Meanwhile, the Consumer Price Index with a fixed interest rate (CPIF), which is the Riksbank’s preferred measure of inflation, recorded a year-on-year increase of 3.1% in September. This marks a slight decline from the 3.2% recorded in August, which was the highest level since January 2024.
