Spain Inflation Rate Accelerates More than Initially Thought

In September 2025, Spain experienced an increase in its annual inflation rate, reaching 3% compared to 2.7% in August, surpassing initial predictions of 2.9%. There was a notable acceleration in costs across various sectors: transport prices increased by 2.2% from 1.2%, housing and utilities rose to 7.1% from 6%, and food and non-alcoholic beverages saw a rise to 2.4% from 2.3%. Additionally, the costs of miscellaneous goods and services increased to 3.5% from 3.4%, clothing and footwear to 0.8% from 0.7%, communication to 0.9% from 0.8%, and education to 2.8% from 2.6%. Meanwhile, inflation rates for alcoholic beverages and tobacco held steady at 4.2%, furniture and household equipment remained at 0.8%, health at 2%, and restaurant and hotel services at 4.3%. On a monthly basis, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) dropped by 0.3%. Core inflation remained at 2.4%, slightly above earlier projections of 2.3%. The EU-harmonised annual inflation rate also increased to 3% from 2.7%, reaching its highest level since June 2024. Month-on-month, the EU-harmonised CPI rose by 0.1%.
