Norway Manufacturing Output Declines in September

In September 2025, Norway experienced a downturn in manufacturing production, with output decreasing by 1.7% compared to the previous month, a shift from the 0.7% increase observed in August. Notably, there was a decline in various sectors: wood and wood products saw a decrease of 4.9% from a prior 2.2% increase; the refined petroleum, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals sector plunged by 9.7% following a 6.0% rise; fabricated metal products fell by 2.5%, a stark contrast to August's 11.8% growth; and transport equipment not elsewhere classified (n.e.c.) dropped by 5.5%, down from a remarkable 23.7% jump. Additionally, the printing and reproduction sector fell by 1.2% after a 0.3% rise, basic metals decreased by 0.6% following a 3.4% increase, and the furniture and manufacturing n.e.c. sector declined by 0.8%, compared to a 0.8% gain. Conversely, the reduction in output was less pronounced for the food, beverages, and tobacco sector, which decreased by 2.0% compared to the previous month's 3.0% drop, and the ships, boats, and oil platforms sector, which fell by 1.6% after a 3.9% decline. Year-on-year, manufacturing output increased by 2.6% in September, which represents a slowdown from the 5.0% high recorded in the previous three-month period.
