The South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SACCI) business confidence index slipped to 131.4 in January 2026 from 133.2 in December, when it reached its highest level since June 2011. SACCI noted, however, that sentiment remained strong following a marked improvement in 2025, during which the index climbed to its highest reading since 2013. The slight monthly decline was mainly driven by weaker performance in manufacturing, merchandise exports, and vehicle sales.
