Mortgage approvals in the United Kingdom declined in December 2025, pointing to a softening in housing market activity at the end of the year.
According to the latest data updated on 30 January 2026, the number of mortgages approved fell to 61.01K in December, down from 64.07K in November 2025. The drop in approvals suggests a moderation in new borrowing and potentially weaker buyer demand as the year closed, following what had been a higher level of activity in the previous month.
