Japan’s PPI Growth Accelerates to 0.2% in January, Signaling Building Cost Pressures

Japan’s Producer Price Index (PPI) rose by 0.2% month-over-month in January 2026, edging up from a 0.1% increase in December 2025, according to data updated on 11 February 2026. The figures indicate a modest acceleration in wholesale price growth at the start of the year.

Measured on a month-over-month basis, the January reading reflects a quicker pace of cost increases for producers compared with the previous month, when prices had risen by just 0.1% versus November 2025. The latest uptick suggests that input-cost pressures in Japan’s production sector are gradually building, which could eventually filter through to consumer prices if sustained.
