The January figure is based on a month‑over‑month comparison, measuring price changes in January relative to December. By contrast, the previous indicator captured the change in December prices versus November, when the CPI had fallen by 0.3%. The latest data signal a renewed pick‑up in price pressures at the start of 2026, ending the brief period of declining consumer prices seen at the close of last year.
