Moldova Inflation Rate Rises in February

Moldova’s annual inflation rate increased to 5.1% year-on-year in February 2026, up from a one-and-a-half-year low of 4.9% in January. Food prices rose by 6.9% (vs 6.2% in January), driven mainly by higher prices for fish and canned fish, eggs, vegetables, and alcoholic beverages. Prices for non-food goods also inched higher (1.9% vs 1.8%), supported by increases in cigarettes, textiles, travel goods, and other leather products. By contrast, service costs eased slightly (7% vs 7.2%), reflecting more moderate price growth in education, utilities, household maintenance and renovation services, repair of household appliances, passenger transport, and public catering. On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell by 0.5% in February, following gains of 0.9% in each of the previous two months.
