The RealClearMarkets/TIPP Economic Optimism Index slipped to 45.1 in August 2026 from 45.5 in July, falling short of market expectations of 47.5 and remaining below the neutral 50 level. The Six-Month Economic Outlook index declined to 39.9 from 42.1, signaling weaker expectations for overall economic performance. In contrast, the Personal Financial Outlook index, which gauges households’ expectations for their own finances over the next six months, inched up to 53 from 52.2, staying as the only component above the neutral threshold. Confidence in Federal Economic Policies, which reflects views on the effectiveness of government economic initiatives, also improved slightly, rising to 42.3 from 42.1.
