US Job Quits Rise in June

The number of Americans voluntarily leaving their jobs rose by 79,000 in June 2026 to 3.23 million, up from a revised 3.15 million in May. The increase was driven mainly by the leisure and hospitality sector (+40,000), particularly in accommodation and food services, as well as trade, transportation, and utilities (+30,000), reflecting gains in both retail and wholesale trade. Quits in the construction industry also climbed by 23,000.

Regionally, quits grew in the West (+96,000) and the Northeast (+35,000), but fell in the Midwest (-27,000) and the South (-24,000). Despite the monthly rise in the number of quits, the quits rate held steady at 2.0%, remaining close to its lowest level since 2020 and indicating that workers are still relatively reluctant to leave their jobs voluntarily.
