Belgium’s consumer confidence indicator fell to -10 in September 2026 from -7 in August, marking the seventh consecutive month in negative territory and the lowest reading since May. The decline was largely driven by a more pessimistic outlook for the broader economy, with the assessment of the general economic situation deteriorating to -41 from -32. Households also scaled back their saving intentions, as the relevant indicator slipped to 20 from 22. By contrast, expectations for unemployment were unchanged at 16, and perceptions of households’ financial situation remained stable at -2 for the fourth month in a row.
