Eurostat announced on Wednesday that the unemployment rate in the euro area stayed steady in February. Unchanged from January, the rate stayed at 6.5 percent, albeit with expectations at 6.4 percent. In terms of numbers, there was an increase of 17,000 unemployed individuals from January. Yet, when compared to the previous year, there was a drop by 30,000 in the unemployment count.
In February, around 2.319 million young individuals under the age of 25 were jobless. The youth unemployment rate remained constant at 14.6 percent. The unemployment rate across the European Union, in comparison to January, also remained stable at 6.0 percent.
